Identify water leakage points and carry out repair works: Maheshwar Rao

Bengaluru, Nov. 24:

Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao instructed BWSSB officials to identify locations where water leakage is occurring within GBA limits and immediately take up repair works.

While addressing an inter-departmental coordination meeting convened to resolve issues arising during the implementation of various development projects across GBA he gave instruction to work closely.

He directed officials to identify water leakage points on city roads, including locations where water is flowing out of manhole chambers, and submit the list to the BWSSB. The BWSSB must then obtain road-cutting permission through the “MARCS” software and carry out repair works on a priority basis, he added.

Remove unused poles:

He instructed BESCOM to immediately remove poles that are not in use but continue to remain on footpaths in areas where underground cables have already been laid. He also directed officials to ensure that transformers located on footpaths do not obstruct pedestrian movement and are properly maintained.

Speed up Metro work:

Noting the slow progress of ongoing Metro construction on Ballari Road, he instructed officials to expedite the work and complete it within the stipulated timeline. He also emphasized the need to implement proper safety measures at construction sites.

Begin towing operations:

To remove abandoned/useless vehicles in the city, he said city corporations must procure towing vehicles. Two towing vehicles have already been purchased in the Central City Corporation limits. He instructed officials to coordinate with the Traffic Police Department to tow those vehicles and to identify dedicated locations within each city corporation to park the towed vehicles.

Relocate bus stops:

He said the Traffic Police Department has identified bus stops that are causing traffic congestion. These details must be shared with each city corporation, which should then conduct site inspections and relocate the bus stops wherever necessary.

Take up repair works under disaster management funds:

He informed that ₹200 crore has been allocated under disaster management for repairing damaged roads, lakes, and stormwater drains during the monsoon season. Each city corporation must prepare a list of repair works and immediately begin implementation.

The meeting was attended by Special Commissioner Dr. K. Harish Kumar; City Corporation Commissioners Rajendra Cholan, Pommala Sunil Kumar, Ramesh D.S., and Ramesh K.N.; Joint Commissioner of Traffic Police Karthik Reddy; senior officials from GBA, BDA, BMRCL, BESCOM, BWSSB and other department representatives.
