Prepare a Micro-Plan for Solid Waste Management: D.S. Ramesh

Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner D.S. Ramesh chaired a progress review meeting of the Solid Waste Management Department today. He instructed officials to introduce improvements in waste segregation, collection, and disposal processes.

Prepare a Micro-Plan: The Commissioner directed officials to prepare a block-wise micro-plan in every ward of the East City Corporation jurisdiction, covering main roads, sub-main roads, ward roads, and black spots. He emphasized the need to ensure systematic waste segregation, collection, and disposal operations.

Management of Public Toilets:To improve the management of the 26 public toilets within the city corporation limits, the Commissioner instructed officials to take necessary steps. He also directed them to identify available land to construct additional public toilets wherever required.

Monitoring Black Spots:Officials were instructed to ensure continuous monitoring of black spots after clearing accumulated waste. Marshals and enforcement teams should prevent dumping in these areas and maintain cleanliness by imposing penalties where necessary.

Check Composting in Residential Complexes:Since large quantities of bulk waste are generated in residential complexes, the Commissioner instructed officials to inspect the segregation practices and ensure that wet waste is composted within the premises. He also emphasized creating awareness among residents on using household wet waste to produce compost.

Composting in Parks and Lake Areas:During festivals, flower waste, fruits, banana stems, and dry leaves are generated in large quantities. The Commissioner directed officials to make compost out of such wet waste in parks and lake areas within the city corporation limits and use the compost as fertilizer in the corporation’s gardens.

Maintain Cleanliness on Outer Ring Road:The Commissioner instructed officials ensure intensive cleaning on both sides and the medians of the Outer Ring Road within the East City Corporation limits to maintain cleanliness.

Additional Commissioner (Development) Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, Assistant General Managers (BSWML) Jyothi and Srinidhi, Marshal Supervisors, Ward Marshals, and Junior Health Inspectors were present at the progress review meeting.
