Municipal Redevelopment: Bengaluru Central Corp Approves Concreting and Structural Overhaul for K.R. Market.
During a meeting held today to review cleanliness, solid waste management, removal of encroachments on footpaths, electricity connections, toilets and other development works at K.R. Market in the Chamarajapet Division of Bengaluru Central City Corporation, Commissioner Shri Jagadish G. directed officials to take several important measures to improve cleanliness and public amenities, provide necessary infrastructure without causing inconvenience to traders and the public, and take strict action against violations.
Special Focus on Continuous Cleanliness and Waste Management
As a large quantity of waste is generated during business activities at K.R. Market, the Solid Waste Management Department must function more effectively and responsibly, ensuring that waste does not remain stored at the site for extended periods.
The Commissioner directed officials to undertake regular cleaning of the entire market area every day and, wherever feasible, carry out continuous cleaning in 2–3 shifts based on local requirements to prevent accumulation of waste.
He also instructed officials to ensure that waste generated after cleaning is properly transported and disposed of. Officials must conduct continuous supervision to prevent any negligence in sanitation works and ensure that the market remains clean and convenient for the public at all times.
Measures to Prevent Re-Encroachment of Footpaths
It was observed that traders have again occupied footpaths that had previously been cleared by placing shops and goods on them in and around K.R. Market.
The Commissioner directed officials to immediately clear such encroachments and conduct regular inspections to prevent their recurrence. Necessary action must be taken against violators, and footpaths must be kept free for the smooth and safe movement of pedestrians.
Improvement of Electricity and Toilet Facilities
The Commissioner directed officials to comprehensively inspect electricity connections, streetlights and other electrical systems at K.R. Market and undertake necessary repairs and maintenance without delay wherever defects are identified.
He also instructed officials to immediately inspect non-functional and damaged toilets in the market and carry out the required repair and maintenance works. All toilets must be kept clean and functional at all times and made easily accessible for use by traders and the public.
Strict Action Against Violations of Designated Vending Spaces
Designated vending spaces have already been marked for traders in front of K.R. Market. The Commissioner directed officials to remove traders operating outside the designated areas or conducting business in a manner that obstructs roads and public movement, impose fines and take strict action against violators.
Repair of Damaged Tiles and Steps
The Commissioner instructed officials to inspect damaged and broken floor tiles at K.R. Market and undertake repairs and install new tiles wherever necessary.
He also directed that damaged portions of steps be repaired and replaced wherever required to ensure safe movement of traders and the public.
Permanent Solution to Waterlogging and Muddy Conditions
Water and wastewater accumulation in the leafy vegetable market area of K.R. Market has been causing muddy conditions, inconveniencing traders and the public and affecting the cleanliness of vegetables, thereby posing a potential risk to public health.
In view of this, the Commissioner directed officials to undertake concreting wherever necessary and provide proper gradients and drainage systems to prevent water stagnation and ensure proper flow of water.
15-Day Deadline for Payment of Pending Shop Rents
The Commissioner directed that traders with pending rents for shops/stalls at K.R. Market must compulsorily clear their dues within 15 days.
Action as per rules must be initiated against shops that fail to pay the outstanding rent within the stipulated period, including locking the shops and initiating the process of taking them into the custody of the City Corporation.
