Complete Stormwater Drainage Project by Year-End: Maheshwar Rao

Bengaluru, June 30:

BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has instructed officials to complete the stormwater drainage work undertaken around Sindhoora Kalyana Mantapa in JP Nagar by the end of this year, in order to prevent flooding in the surrounding areas.

During an inspection tour of various locations in the city’s South Zone today, he stated that a 1.3 km-long stormwater drain is being constructed to connect Sindhoora Kalyana Mantapa to K-210. He directed officials to expedite the completion of this project to avoid flooding during the rainy season.

He further emphasized that barricading must be installed near chambers at the construction sites to ensure safety and prevent any untoward incidents. Proper maintenance of pedestrian pathways along the construction zone was also instructed.

Additionally, he directed that silt from side drains along the Outer Ring Road should be removed and cleanliness maintained. The removed silt should be immediately disposed of and not left at the site to ensure smooth water flow on roads during rains.

Biogas Plant Inspection: The Chief Commissioner also visited the solid waste biogas plant in Jayanagar 3rd Block, which has a processing capacity of 5 tons. He instructed officials to identify suitable locations for setting up similar units across other parts of the city. This initiative is expected to help manage waste more effectively, especially in high-traffic areas like KR Market.

Solid Waste Collection Center Inspection: During his visit to the solid waste collection center in Attiguppe Ward, he instructed officials to ensure that roadsides and vacant plots do not turn into black spots. He directed marshals and supervisors to promptly clear any such sites and prevent reoccurrence.

Electric Crematorium Inspection:At the Wilson Garden Electric Crematorium, the Chief Commissioner stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness around the facility. Out of the two furnaces, one is currently under construction, and he instructed officials to expedite its completion.

He also called for ensuring proper basic amenities for visitors coming for funeral services and proposed the construction of two additional furnaces to meet growing demand. Currently, the only animal cremation facility is located in Sumanahalli. Officials were directed to identify other suitable locations for setting up additional facilities.

The inspection was attended by Zonal Commissioner Digvijay Bodke, Chief Engineer Rajesh, Executive Engineers, and other senior officials.
