Design a Comprehensive Development Plan for Major Junctions: Maheshwar Rao

Bengaluru, July 14:

BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed officials to design a comprehensive development plan for major junctions within the BBMP limits.

Addressing a meeting held today at the BBMP head office, which focused on various issues across different zones, the Chief Commissioner stated that while several junction development projects are already underway in the city, officials must now prepare an integrated development plan for other key junctions to ensure uniform progress.

Resolve Issues in Flood-Prone Areas: Currently, there are 53 flood-prone areas under BBMP limits. Of these, problems have been resolved in 4 locations. Work remains to be completed in 49 areas, with 22 locations receiving World Bank funding. The Chief Commissioner instructed officials to take immediate preventive and temporary measures to ensure that no new problems arise in any of these areas.

Take Action Against Unauthorized Constructions: Strict action must be taken against unauthorized building constructions in the city. Unauthorized constructions that violate approved plans must be effectively curbed. In such cases, BBMP will send a letter to BESCOM to disconnect power supply, followed by appropriate legal proceedings.

Accelerate Land Acquisition Process: For city infrastructure projects such as roads, flyovers, and underpasses, land acquisition must be expedited through TDR. Relevant zonal officers have been instructed to identify and list properties requiring acquisition, issue TDRs to landowners, and promptly complete land acquisition to ensure timely project execution.

Achieve Property Tax Collection Targets: BBMP has set a target of ₹6,256 crore in property tax collection for the financial year 2025-26, of which ₹2,966 crore has been collected so far. Special focus must be given to property tax collection across the 8 BBMP zones. Emphasis should also be placed on the newly launched e-khata system, with proper monitoring to enhance revenue collection for the corporation.

Potholes Must Be Filled Promptly:Road potholes in the city must be addressed on an ongoing basis. Complaints received through the road pothole tracking software must be resolved swiftly. Additionally, officials have been instructed to fill potholes on arterial and sub-arterial roads throughout the city.

Develop Pedestrian Pathways: Each of the 8 BBMP zones must identify 20 km of continuous pedestrian pathways (on both sides of the roads). These paths must be free from any encroachments, and steps must be taken to clear them and upgrade the walkways. Post-development, officials must ensure proper maintenance of these facilities.

Ensure Continuous Sanitation Drives: Sanitation drives must be conducted regularly—on the 2nd and 4th Fridays, and the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month—in all zones. While some zones have already initiated cleanliness drives, officials were directed to implement them effectively across all zones, focusing on pedestrian pathways and stormwater drains.

The meeting was attended by Special Commissioners Muneesh Moudgil, Suralkar Vikas Kishor, Dr. K. Harish Kumar, Zonal Commissioners Satish, Karigowda, Ramya, Ramesh, Snehal, Digvijay Bodke, Deputy Commissioners, Chief Engineers, and other concerned officials.
