

Greater Bengaluru Authority-Progress in Iblur Junction Improvement – Rapid Development Under Project Walkaluru
Action to Develop Junctions Under CSR – Instructions from Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao

As part of Project Walkaluru, GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao today inspected the progress of pedestrian facilitation and safe traffic improvement works at Iblur Junction.
Over 100 volunteers participated in the beautification of the Iblur Junction flyover, including three children aged 13, whose enthusiasm was appreciated by the Chief Commissioner.Iblur Junction is located on the border of South and East City Corporations and serves as a major traffic route. The improvement works are being implemented as a joint effort by the authorities and citizens. Under the Suraksha 75 initiative, the junction is being made pedestrian-friendly and safer for the public.
Pedestrian Improvements and Safety Measures:Transformers on the pedestrian path are to be relocated, and waste, soil, and debris have been cleared. The Chief Commissioner instructed the installation of a high-rise zebra crossing to enhance pedestrian safety.
Construction of Stormwater Drain in Vacant Area:A stormwater drain will be constructed in the vacant area near Iblur Junction to prevent waterlogging. Technical measures have been directed to ensure proper water flow in the area.
New Road Connectivity Plan:There is a vacant area near the junction from Outer Ring Road to Sarjapur Road. The Chief Commissioner instructed authorities to consult the landowners and construct a road here to provide direct connectivity to Sarjapur Road without entering the junction.
Skywalk Feasibility:While a skywalk exists on the Sarjapur Road side, the possibility of constructing a skywalk on the Outer Ring Road side was directed to be examined and reported to ensure smooth pedestrian movement.
Beautification With Citizens’ Participation:The Iblur Junction beautification works have now reached their fifth day, following earlier works on Sept 27, Oct 2, 4, and 5. Corporation officials, NGOs, local residents, volunteers, and resident welfare associations participated, painting the flyover pillars and enhancing aesthetics.
Remaining Work to Be Completed in Two Weeks:Works along approximately 200 meters near Manipal Hospital have been completed. The pedestrian pathways at the junction have been upgraded, with three of the four junction sections completed. The remaining section is expected to be finished within two weeks.
CSR Support for Junction Development:Under the Suraksha 75 program, development work at 75 junctions is in progress. Authorities have been instructed to utilize CSR funds to further develop other junctions.
The operation involved Basavaraj Kabade – Chief Engineer South, Arun Pai – Co-founder of Project Walkaluru, the Mahadevapura Task Force team, officials from East and South City Corporations, and dedicated volunteers.
