Operation of All PGs and Service Apartments Must Comply with Safety Standards: D.S. Ramesh

Bengaluru, Jan. 3-

The Commissioner of Bengaluru East City Corporation, D.S. Ramesh, today conducted inspections across various areas under the East City Corporation limits, including inspections of PG accommodations, lakes, garbage black spots, the electric crematorium, and sealing operations of commercial buildings for revenue recovery.

Inspection of Over 20 PGs:

In the interest of public health and safety, all owners, operators, and managers of PG accommodations within the Bengaluru East City Corporation limits have been directed to immediately review and strictly comply with all prescribed safety protocols, including but not limited to the following:

* Safe and authorized use of LPG/gas connections
* Prohibition of illegal or unsafe gas cylinders
* Adequate ventilation and fire safety measures
* Functional fire extinguishers and emergency exits
* Electrical safety and prevention of overloading
* Valid and existing trade licenses and registrations
* Adoption of the Standard Operating Procedures issued by the City Corporation

As part of this drive, inspections were conducted at more than 20 PGs today by the City Corporation health staff under the leadership of Health Officers and the guidance of the Additional Commissioner (Revenue). The Commissioner has strictly instructed PG building owners, operators, and managers to ensure full compliance with all safety standards and certified operating procedures within the next two days.

Officials have been directed to take strict action against non-compliant PGs, including premises closure/sealing, cancellation or suspension of trade licenses, imposition of penalties under the Greater Bengaluru Authority Act, 2024 and other applicable laws, and initiation of legal proceedings in cases where violations pose a threat to life and safety.

Devarabeesanahalli Lake:During the inspection of Devarabeesanahalli Lake, the Commissioner instructed officials to expedite the ongoing wetland desilting and maintenance works aimed at improving ecological balance and enhancing the lake’s water storage capacity.

Panathur Lake:To further strengthen the maintenance and safety of Panathur Lake, officials were directed to deploy Home Guards and lake maintenance workers to reinforce cleanliness and security arrangements.

Inspection of Panathur Electric Crematorium:The Commissioner inspected the operational status of the furnace at the Panathur Electric Crematorium and instructed the concerned officials to submit a proposal in the next financial year, keeping in view the requirement for an additional furnace.

Black Spot Inspection:During the inspection of the Bhoganahalli black spot area, the Commissioner issued strict instructions to prevent illegal dumping of garbage, ensure immediate clearance of waste, and impose penalties on violators.

Sealing of Commercial Buildings for Non-Payment of Property Tax:

In the KR Puram Zone under the East City Corporation limits, commercial buildings that had been in arrears for several years due to non-payment of property tax were sealed by the revenue recovery team under the leadership of Joint Commissioner Dr. Sudha. During today’s sealing drive, 76 buildings were inspected; out of these, 16 properties paid the outstanding property tax on the spot, while the remaining 60 properties were sealed to facilitate recovery of arrears from the property owners, the Commissioner stated.

During today’s inspections, the Additional Commissioner (Revenue) Smt. Prajna Ammambala, Joint Commissioner Dr. Sudha, Health Officer Dr. Savitha, Deputy Commissioner Muralidhara, Executive Engineers, Health Medical Officers, Revenue Officers, and other City Corporation officials and staff were present.
