Bengaluru, Jan. 02:

The Chief Commissioner, Maheshwar Rao, has issued strict directions to officials of BESCOM, KPTCL, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), and GAIL, stating that any department found cutting roads within the GBA jurisdiction without prior permission will be penalized and criminal cases will be registered.

Addressing a coordination meeting held today to discuss issues faced during the implementation of works undertaken by various departments within the GBA limits, he emphasized that obtaining permission through the MARKS software is mandatory for any road cutting in the city. He warned that no department, under any circumstances, should undertake road cutting without prior approval.

He directed the concerned city corporations to promptly scrutinize applications received through the MARKS software and grant permissions without delay. Once permission is granted, departments must complete the work expeditiously and ensure proper restoration of the road.

All departments were instructed to prepare and submit advance schedules of proposed road-cutting works. Further, they were directed to mark on Google Maps the roads where cutting is proposed, including the length involved, and share this information with all city corporations.

Accelerate Last-Mile Connectivity:The Chief Commissioner stressed the need to accelerate last-mile connectivity works across the city. Several such projects have already commenced under the NCAP funding. He instructed that feeder bus services by BMTC, parking facilities, construction of skywalks, bus shelters, and other essential infrastructure should be completed efficiently within the stipulated timelines.

Procurement of Water Jetting Machines:To ensure clean and well-maintained footpaths, he directed the Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited to procure five water jetting machines, one for each city corporation. These machines should be used regularly to clean footpaths within respective city corporation limits.

Joint Inspections at Problematic Locations:White-topping works are underway across many parts of the city. However, in certain stretches, works are pending due to issues related to BWSSB works and permissions from the Traffic Police. He instructed that a list of such problematic locations be prepared and that joint inspections be conducted by officials from GBA, Traffic Police, and BWSSB to resolve issues and initiate works promptly.

Other Key Issues Discussed in the Meeting:– Parking locations near 69 metro stations have already been identified. Officials were instructed to identify and submit a list of locations where unauthorized parking is occurring along metro corridors.

– As part of road safety measures, city corporations, DULT, and the BMRCL were directed to immediately undertake works such as pedestrian crossings and road markings.

– Relocation of bus stops should be completed on a priority basis.

– Officials were instructed to address issues related to BESCOM electric poles and transformers on footpaths, identify hazardous wiring, and take necessary steps to resolve these safety concerns.

The meeting was attended by City Corporation Commissioners Ramesh D.S. and Ramesh K.N., along with officials from the GBA, all five city corporations, BMRCL, BDA, DULT, Fire Services, BESCOM, KPTCL, Traffic Police Department, GAIL, and other concerned departments.
