Recover Outstanding Rent from Defaulters in K.R. Market-
To maintain cleanliness at K.R. Market, GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive master plan.
Speaking during his inspection of the K.R. Market premises this morning, he noted that approximately 70 tons of waste is generated daily at the market. He emphasized the need for effective and scientific disposal of this waste and directed officials to prepare a master plan to ensure complete cleanliness.
Recover Outstanding Rent from Non-Paying Shops: He further directed officials to take appropriate action to identify the total number of shops in the market and recover pending rents from defaulters. The market comprises a total of 1,288 shops – 529 on the ground floor, 494 on the first floor, and 265 on the second floor.
Although there is an ongoing court case related to rent payments, he urged that the matter be resolved at the earliest and that all dues owed to the corporation be recovered.
He instructed that cleanliness should be maintained 24/7 in the market. Every shop must mandatorily keep bins for waste disposal. Marshals should fine those who dispose of waste improperly and raise awareness to ensure waste is disposed of only in designated locations.
Penalize Encroachments:Shopkeepers must conduct business only within their allotted spaces. Any encroachment beyond the allotted area must be penalized, and such encroachments must be cleared immediately. He warned that repeat offenses would attract legal action.
Undertake Repair Works:He observed that granite near staircases in the market premises has been damaged, causing inconvenience to customers. He instructed officials to immediately assess and undertake necessary repair work wherever required. He also noted that damaged roof sheets are causing water leakage, affecting both traders and the public. He directed prompt repairs and steps to prevent water stagnation in the premises.
Ensure Public Access to Toilets:The toilet on the first floor of K.R. Market was found to be locked and in an unhygienic condition. The Chief Commissioner instructed that it be cleaned and made accessible to the public by this evening.
Another toilet in the market was found to be poorly maintained and unfit for public use. As an alternative, he directed officials to construct a new toilet in a nearby vacant space. Until then, the existing toilet must be maintained properly.
Remove Unauthorized Items:He observed unauthorized storage of materials in certain parts of the second floor. He ordered immediate removal of such items. He also asked officials to identify vacant areas near waste disposal sites and take steps to utilize those spaces efficiently.
Do Not Shirk Responsibility for Cleanliness: Rajendra Cholan
Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Rajendra Cholan, noting the lack of coordination among officials operating within the market, warned them not to shirk responsibility. He instructed that all departmental officers must work in coordination to ensure cleanliness in the market.
Chief Engineer Vijay Kumar Haridas, Executive Engineers, officials from BESCOM, and several others were present during the inspection.
