Strict Orders Issued to Halt Road Excavation Works by BWSSB and Other Departments: Rajendra Cholan

Nodal Officers Appointed to Ensure Proper Maintenance of Roads:

Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Rajendra Cholan has issued strict instructions to halt all ongoing road excavation works and to deny permission for any new road-cutting activities within the limits of City Corporation. This directive applies to all departments, including BWSSB, BESCOM, and KPTCL.

While inspecting various locations this morning, the Commissioner noted that although departments such as BWSSB, BESCOM, and KPTCL have completed their respective works, they have failed to properly restore the roads after excavation. As a result, he has instructed that no new road-cutting permissions be granted and that all current projects be suspended until the previously excavated roads are fully restored.

It has been observed that even after City Corporation develops or repairs roads, other departments undertake works by cutting through them and then neglect to restore the roads to their original condition. This not only tarnishes the reputation of the city corporation but also causes significant inconvenience to vehicular traffic. The Commissioner emphasized that such negligence cannot be tolerated.

Action Plan for Restoration and Accountability:The Commissioner has directed that a detailed, ward-wise list with photographs of all roads excavated by BWSSB, BESCOM, KPTCL, and other agencies be compiled. This list should then be used to call meetings with the concerned departments and ensure that road restoration and pothole-filling works are taken up without delay. Only after proper restoration is verified will permissions be granted for ongoing or new projects.

Road Restoration Works to Begin Immediately:During inspection of key roads such as Sampige Road, Sheshadri Road, and areas around Shivananda Circle, the Commissioner instructed that restoration of road surfaces and pothole-filling should be completed. Roads around Shivananda Circle have significantly deteriorated and must be repaired immediately.

Maintain Cleanliness on Railway Parallel Roads:At the railway parallel road in Kumar Park, Sheshadripuram, pedestrian pathways were found to be unclean. The Commissioner instructed that immediate cleaning works be undertaken to ensure smooth pedestrian movement. Streetlights that are non-functional must also be repaired promptly.

Upgrade Seating at Sports Complex:While inspecting the R. Gundurao Sports Complex in Gandhinagar, it was found that several spectator seats around the field were damaged. The Commissioner directed that these be replaced immediately and that the sports ground be maintained regularly.

Safeguard City Corporation Properties:Instructions were given to identify and list all City Corporation-owned properties within the Central City Corporation limits and to take steps for their proper upkeep and protection.

Appointment of Nodal Officers: Nodal officers have been appointed for each road under the Central City Corporation’s limits to monitor and resolve issues such as potholes, black spots, waterlogging points, streetlight repairs, and pedestrian pathway maintenance. A list of nodal officers is already available, and issues will be resolved in a phased manner.

The inspection was accompanied by Chief Engineer Vijay Kumar Haridas, Executive Engineers, and officials from BSWML and other relevant departments.
