Take Appropriate Measures to Prevent Human–Animal Conflict: Dr. Rajendra K.V.

Bengaluru, December 5:

Commissioner of Bengaluru West City Corporation, Dr. Rajendra K.V., has directed officials to take appropriate measures to prevent human–animal conflict within the city corporation limits.

Speaking at a meeting held with animal welfare organizations in the Bengaluru West City Corporation limits, he instructed that, as per the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, the 202 identified stray dogs must be immediately shifted to designated shelters and centres in accordance with regulations.

Around 13 animal welfare organizations, three ABC–ARV service providers, and various officials participated in the meeting and offered several suggestions. The animal welfare groups assured that they would actively support and engage in the programme to the best of their capacity.

The Commissioner appreciated the proactive involvement of the animal welfare organizations and assured complete cooperation from the Corporation.

In compliance with the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s order, 1,352 institutions have been identified within the Bengaluru West City Corporation limits. Of these, 209 institutions have provided information so far, based on which 202 stray dogs have been identified.

Currently, two service providers are engaged in the ABC–ARV programme and two service providers are involved in the MDV programme within the city corporation limits and are part of the implementation efforts.

Three locations have already been identified for establishing shelters for stray dogs:
Centre for Destitutes Committee, Jnanabharathi Campus and the Mysore Lamps Factory Premises.
A proposal for handing over these locations has been submitted to the Government.

The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner (Revenue) Manjunath Swamy, Joint Commissioners Sangappa and Aarthi Anand, Chief Engineer Swayam Prabha, members of SPCA, the Chief Veterinary Officer, and other departmental officials.
