BBMP HAS SEALED AROUND 32 SHOPS IN BENGALURU OVER TAX ARREARS

Notices have been issued to delinquents and revision cases with high property tax arrears in the Western Zone, who have not paid the outstanding property tax despite being given sufficient time. Due to this, as per the BBMP Act 2020 and the regulations, non-commercial properties are being sealed and the arrears of property tax are being recovered.

Moreover, in cases of revision of property tax in the Assistant Revenue Officer sub-division, the property with the highest arrears is sealed.

A notice has been issued in January 2024 to revise the property tax for the lines from 2016-17 to 2023-24 due to verification of the details of assets declared under self-declaration property tax system for the said assets.

A one-time relief scheme (waiver of interest and penalty) was implemented by the Government of Karnataka for the payment of arrears of property tax on the assets of the corporation, and a letter of understanding was given on March 2024 to pay the arrears of property tax under the said scheme.

The owner of the property has so far paid property tax for lines 2016-17 and 2017-18 and arrears of revised property tax for remaining lines (Total Rs. 1.51 crore due from 2018-19 to 2023-2024).

In the financial interest of the corporation, the said building will be seized today as per the Greater Bangalore Municipal Corporation Act 2020 Dated: 04-11-2024 at 1 PM by the officers and staff of the Corporation for the recovery of property tax dues. Accordingly, the main entrances of 32 shops in the said building will be locked.
