9 thousand kg of single-use plastic seized in GBA limits, Rs. 7.38 lakh fine collected: Karigowda,Chief Executive Officer of BSWML.

9,000 kg of single-use plastic has been seized under the jurisdiction of the Greater Bengaluru Authority and a fine of Rs. 7.38 lakh has been collected, said Karigowda, Chief Executive Officer of BSWML.

Despite a complete ban on single-use plastic across the city, it has been found that single-use plastic covers are being illegally stockpiled and sold.

Officials of the Bangalore Solid Waste Management Limited conducted a swift operation against manufacturers and stockpilers, seizing plastic worth lakhs of rupees and seizing a godown in K.R. Market.

The details of the fines imposed and collected as per the rules during the inspection are as follows:

K.R. Market: 29 kg of single-use plastic seized from 3 cases in A Block of K.R. Market and Rs. 30,000/- fine recovered

In addition, 6310 kg of single-use plastic was seized from 22 cases in Vendors C Block, and a fine of Rs. 3500/- was recovered.

Avenue Road: 300 kg of single-use plastic was seized from 17 cases in B Block of Avenue Road and a fine of Rs. 40,000/- was recovered.

Kalasipalya: 150 kg of single-use plastic seized from 24 cases in Kalasipalya, Rs. 45,900/- fine recovered.

Yeshwantpur Market: 110 kg of single-use plastic seized from 27 cases in Yeshwantpur Market, Rs. 61,800/- fine collected.

Peenya Industrial Area: 450 kg of single-use plastic was seized from 27 cases in Peenya Industrial Area and a fine of Rs. 1,00,500/- was recovered.

Dasarahalli (Manufacturing) Area: 218 kg of single-use plastic was seized from 01 cases in Dasarahalli (Manufacturing) area and a fine of Rs. 50,000/- was recovered.

Chamarajpet and other areas:2,000 kg of single-use plastic was seized in 37 cases in Chamarajpet-Makkalakoota, Akkipet, Balepet areas and a fine of Rs. 4,07,000/- was recovered.

A total of 9,567 kg of single-use plastic was seized from 158 cases and a fine of Rs. 7,38,700 was collected, encouraging the public and vendors to avoid single-use plastic and use cloth bags.

He appealed for cooperation in preventing public health and environmental pollution.
