Carry Out Eviction Drive Against Encroachments in Lakes: Maheshwar Rao

Bengaluru, Jan. 09:

The Chief Commissioner,  Maheshwar Rao, has instructed the officials to carry out eviction operations against illegal encroachments in lakes falling under the limits of the Bengaluru South City Corporation.

Addressing a meeting held to review various matters related to the Bengaluru South City Corporation, he informed that there are a total of 59 lakes within the limits of the South City Corporation. Out of these, survey and marking work has been completed in 43 lakes, and notices have already been issued for eviction in 21 lakes. Therefore, he directed the officials to initiate immediate action to clear the encroachments.

Identify and Remove Encroachments on Government Land:He instructed that illegal encroachments on government land must be identified and removed without delay. He warned that if this task is not carried out effectively, the concerned officials will be held directly responsible.

Conduct Survey of Open Wells:Emphasising the need to take necessary measures to enhance groundwater levels in the city, he directed the officials to conduct a survey of the open wells within the South City Corporation limits and to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for their rejuvenation and take further necessary action.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner of Bengaluru South City Corporation, Shri Ramesh K.N., stated that continuous monitoring is being carried out to ensure that all developmental works within the corporation limits are completed expeditiously, and regular review meetings are being held with the officials.

He further informed that the work of filling potholes is being carried out continuously across the South City Corporation limits, and locations for the construction of pedestrian skywalks have been inspected. Out of the 12 identified bus shelters for relocation, relocation has already been completed at 9 locations, and the remaining 3 will be shifted shortly.

He also explained that the work of implementing the “Light Tender S.U.R.E” model on major roads connected to Metro corridors is progressing rapidly, and the project to provide “last mile connectivity” to the Green Line Metro stations at Thalagattapura, Silk Institute, Vajarahalli, Konanakunte, JP Nagar, South End Road, National College–1 and 2, Chikkapete, and K.R. Market is being completed on a fast-track basis.

 

Other Important Directions Issued in the Meeting:

* Complete the junction development works taken up under the Suraksha Scheme by March.

* Widen footpaths as per norms and remove encroachments.

* Procure a jet patcher machine for filling potholes.

* Provide permanent solutions to flood-prone areas.

* Install sluice gates for lakes.

* Immediately initiate the tender process for off-street parking.

* Take strict action to remove unauthorized buildings.

* Speed up white-topping works and ensure early completion in the areas where they have been taken up.

On this occasion, the Additional Commissioner (Development)  Naveen Kumar Raju, Chief Engineers Basavaraj Kabade, Ravi, Dr. Raghavendra Prasad, Rajesh, Superintendent Engineer, Executive Engineers and other officials were present.
