Committee to be formed to prepare a report on prevention and control of accidents: Maheshwar Rao
Bengaluru, Feb. 26:
Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao instructed officials to constitute a committee to prepare a comprehensive report on preventing and controlling accidents in the commercial areas of Chikkapete.
He issued these directions during his visit and inspection of the site of the fire accident that occurred in Kumbarpet within the jurisdiction of the Bengaluru Central City Corporation. He directed officials to strictly implement precautionary measures to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future.
A fire accident had also occurred last year in Nagarathpete within the Chikkapete area. In view of the recurrence of a fire incident in Kumbarpet, he instructed that a committee comprising representatives from the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), the Central City Corporation, the Fire and Emergency Services Department, and the Electricity Department be formed to conduct a detailed inquiry into the causes of the accident and to submit a comprehensive report on effective measures to prevent and control such incidents.
Hydrant system to be provided:
To effectively prevent fire accidents, steps must be taken to install hydrant systems at key locations. He also directed that CCTV cameras be installed to monitor the hydrant systems.
A fire broke out early yesterday morning in the three-storeyed “Lakshmi Commercial Complex” in Kumbarpet. Due to the narrow road at the location, fire tenders could not gain direct access. Fire personnel informed that the blaze was extinguished by laying hose lines from a distance of approximately 300 meters.
Key directions issued at the site:
* A comprehensive inspection must be conducted of the building where the fire accident occurred.
* Fire safety systems and fire extinguishers must be made mandatory in all commercial buildings within the Chikkapete jurisdiction. Strict instructions were issued to seal buildings that fail to install fire safety systems, without any leniency.
* A meeting should be convened with trade associations to discuss necessary precautionary measures and to ensure their mandatory compliance.
* Immediate disconnection of electricity supply to unauthorized buildings and issuance of notices to halt construction activities. If portions constructed in violation of the sanctioned plan are not removed, criminal cases should be registered against the building owners.
* Unsafe buildings must be inspected and immediate notices issued to undertake necessary safety measures.
* Directions were given to ensure proper maintenance of sanitation works within the Chikkapete area.
On the occasion, Central City Corporation Commissioner Rajendra Cholan, Additional Commissioner Daljit Kumar, Joint Commissioner Hemanth Sharan, Chief Engineer Vijay Kumar Haridas, Superintendent Engineer, Executive Engineers, and other officials were present.
