Work in coordination to ensure the success of the historic Karaga Shaktyotsava: Rajendra Cholan

In connection with the historic Karaga Shaktyotsava of Bengaluru scheduled to commence from March 24, 2026, the Commissioner of Bengaluru Central City Corporation,Rajendra Cholan, visited the Sri Dharmaraya Swamy Temple, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Bengaluru Central City Corporation and is the central venue of the festival. During the visit this morning, he inspected the temple premises, the Karaga procession routes, and the surrounding areas along with the temple management committee and officials of the Central City Corporation. He reviewed the preparations to be undertaken by the corporation and instructed officials to take necessary measures such as repairing roads along the Karaga route, repairing manholes of underground drains, maintaining cleanliness, ensuring regular waste clearance, removing garbage black spots, clearing abandoned vehicles parked along roadsides, removing construction debris dumped on roads, removing unused BESCOM electric poles, arranging decorative lighting at the festival venue and surrounding areas, filling potholes, and taking other required steps.

He also directed officials to act in accordance with the instructions issued during the meeting held last week by the Hon’ble Transport and Muzrai Minister.

Removal of black spots-During the inspection, the Commissioner observed garbage black spots and waste dumped along certain roads. He directed the DGM and AGM officials to clear all such black spots along the Karaga procession routes and ensure measures are taken to prevent the public from dumping waste again in those locations.

Road repair works-The Commissioner instructed the engineers of the Gandhinagar and Chickpet divisions to urgently inspect the potholes on the Karaga procession routes and take immediate steps to fill them. He directed the Executive Engineers of both divisions to complete the road repair works at the earliest.

Request for cooperation from the temple management committee to provide basic facilities.

The Commissioner requested the temple management committee to coordinate with the Central City Corporation officials and communicate the basic facilities required for the Karaga Shaktyotsava. He advised them to discuss the requirements with the concerned officials and take necessary steps.

Arrangement for decorative lighting-Officials were instructed to arrange decorative lighting at important locations in connection with the Karaga Shaktyotsava.

Repair of manholes-Officials of the BWSSB were instructed to urgently repair damaged manholes in coordination with the city corporation officials.

Removal of unusable materials and abandoned vehicles on footpaths-During the inspection, the Commissioner directed officials to remove unusable materials, construction debris placed on footpaths, and abandoned vehicles. He also instructed them to repair damaged slabs on the footpaths.

Clearing waste from gratings-The Commissioner observed that road gratings were clogged with bottles and plastic waste, which could obstruct the flow of rainwater. He instructed officials to clear the waste from the gratings immediately.

Action as per the directions of the Hon’ble Transport and Muzrai Minister

He further instructed that, as directed in the meeting held last week by the Hon’ble Transport and Muzrai Minister Shri Ramalinga Reddy, and as per any further directions issued by him, the Central City Corporation, District Administration, BESCOM, BWSSB, and Muzrai Department should work in coordination to ensure the successful conduct of the Karaga Shaktyotsava. He also requested the cooperation of the Sri Dharmaraya Swamy Temple management committee.

The inspection was attended by Additional Commissioner (Development) Daljit Kumar, Joint Commissioner Hemanth Sharan, Chief Engineer Vijay Kumar Haridas, Superintendent Engineer, Executive Engineers of Chickpet and Gandhinagar divisions, members of the Sri Dharmaraya Swamy Temple management committee, the Executive Officer of the Muzrai Department, and officials from BESCOM, the BWSSB, and other concerned departments.
