Priority for Integrated Development of Major Roads and Infrastructure Projects: Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar
A progress review meeting was held under the leadership of Additional Commissioner Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar to review the progress of various major road, junction development and infrastructure projects being undertaken by B-Style within the jurisdiction of Bengaluru East City Corporation.
The meeting reviewed and discussed in detail the progress, technical aspects, inter-departmental coordination and execution of various key infrastructure projects, including the Hennur–Bagalur Road, Horamavu Service Road, roads under the High-Density Corridor, ITPL Road, Hope Farm–Old Madras Road, Outer Ring Road junction improvements, and the Yeshwanthpur–K.R. Puram Elevated Corridor.
Expedite Hennur–Bagalur Road and Horamavu Service Road Works
The meeting discussed the road and drain works proposed from Hennur–Bagalur Road to the Horamavu Service Road. The Additional Commissioner directed the concerned officials to conduct a site inspection, assess the ground situation and prepare the necessary work plan for taking up the works on priority.
While determining the width of the drain along the service road, officials were instructed to consider future traffic growth, stormwater carrying capacity and upcoming infrastructure requirements. Since a 36-metre width has currently been fixed for the drain development, the officers were directed to undertake the necessary technical assessment by considering future demand and requirements.
The meeting also discussed the box culvert near the railway bridge on Hennur–Bagalur Road and the approximately 4-metre-wide roadside drain works. The officials were instructed to coordinate with the Railway Department and local representatives and undertake necessary works, including road asphalting wherever required.
Focus on Quality of ITPL–Hope Farm Road Works
The progress and quality of road and infrastructure works being undertaken along ITPL Road and from Hope Farm to Old Madras Road were reviewed.
The Additional Commissioner instructed officials not to compromise on the quality of works and to continuously monitor whether the works are being executed as per the prescribed standards.
The concerned officials were also directed to complete the works by the end of September. Issues related to road restoration should be discussed in the Road Restoration Coordination Committee, and appropriate action should be taken in coordination with the concerned departments.
Comprehensive Development of Outer Ring Road Junctions
The meeting held detailed discussions on the improvement of major junctions along the Outer Ring Road.
Officials were instructed not to restrict improvement works only to the junction area but to consider an approximately 50-metre stretch in all directions and undertake necessary infrastructure and traffic improvement measures.
A comprehensive plan should be prepared by considering traffic pressure, road connectivity, pedestrian movement, drainage infrastructure and future traffic requirements at the junctions, the Additional Commissioner directed the engineers and technical teams.
Review of Yeshwanthpur–K.R. Puram Elevated Corridor
The meeting reviewed the status of the Yeshwanthpur–K.R. Puram Elevated Corridor, including the pending approval for the project at the government level.
Officials were directed to obtain the necessary information regarding the next stages of the project and coordinate with the government and concerned departments to expedite further processes.
Instructions for Repair of Drain Slabs at Marathahalli
The issue of damaged drain slabs near Sudarshan Silks, Marathahalli, was brought to the attention of the meeting. Officials were directed to immediately inspect the site and undertake necessary repair works to ensure that the damaged slabs do not pose any risk or inconvenience to the public.
The Additional Commissioner emphasized that even minor repair works concerning public safety should be addressed promptly without delay.
Focus on a Comprehensive Future Development Action Plan
The Additional Commissioner directed officials to formulate future development action plans by considering roads, drains, bridges, junctions and elevated corridors not as isolated projects but as interconnected infrastructure components, keeping future requirements and the overall perspective of urban development in mind.
Coordination among all concerned departments, engineers and technical teams should be ensured at the planning stage itself. Alignment, connecting roads, drainage systems, utility services, traffic arrangements and other technical aspects should be examined in advance so that problems do not arise after commencement of the works.
Resolve Issues at the Planning Stage Itself
Officials were instructed to adopt a comprehensive approach at the planning stage, take necessary decisions in advance and thereafter ensure speedy implementation of the projects.
Potential issues arising due to lack of coordination between different projects should be identified and resolved at the initial stage itself, rather than addressing them after execution.
As major road and infrastructure projects are interconnected, coordination should be ensured during the planning stage so that implementation of one project does not create obstacles for another, the Additional Commissioner said.
Instructions for Quality and Time-Bound Completion
Officials were instructed to complete major infrastructure projects within the stipulated timelines while strictly maintaining the quality of works.
Progress should be reviewed regularly, pending issues identified and resolved promptly through coordination with the concerned departments. Phase-wise execution plans should be prepared to ensure that the public does not face prolonged inconvenience during the implementation of the works.
The Additional Commissioner stated that steps would be taken to develop sustainable, safe and future-ready infrastructure by implementing major roads, drains, junctions and other infrastructure projects in an integrated and coordinated manner.
Chief Engineers Lokesh and Krishnamurthy, Executive Engineers of B-Style, Executive Engineers from various divisions and concerned officials from different departments were present at the meeting.
