Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao instructed the officials to Build safe & walkable footpaths for citizens.
He spoke while inspecting Gubbi Thotadappa Road, Dhanwantri Road, Tank Bund Road, and the bus depo near Kempegowda Bus Stand (Majestic) in the west zone in order to provide Obstacle-Free footpaths for citizens within the BBMP limits.
Pedestrians should be given first priority in Bengaluru, and footpaths should be built so that they can walk smoothly. He also instructed the officials to maintain the footpaths properly from time to time.
He inspected the footpath adjacent to the bus stand near Shantala Silk Junction. He observed that there was additional space inside the bus stand and instructed them to take appropriate measures to widen the footpath.
There are enough toilets around the Majestic Bus Stand. However, most of the people urinated on the footpaths, which is causing a foul smell. He instructed them to take necessary measures to control urination on the footpaths in this regard, in addition to maintaining cleanliness everywhere.
He found a huge ring pipe on the footpath leading from the Sangolli Rayanna statue to Dhanvantri Road, and action should be taken to clear it immediately. He also found dry logs and branches on the same road and instructed them to bring it to the attention of the forest department officials and take up the clearance work.
The BWSSB wall of the railway station road is in an unpaved condition, and a barricade has been placed across it without installing a slab. He instructed them to install a slab in this regard. Manpho Bell has installed a barricade across the sidewalk in front of the building and has been instructed to remove it.
Installation of curbs/slabs/bollards:
The curbs on most of the sidewalks are damaged and should be repaired immediately. The slabs on some sidewalks are damaged and should be replaced. Bollards should be installed immediately where necessary. He noted that sewage is coming out through the ducts installed for the sewer and directed the concerned authorities to bring it to their attention and fix it immediately.
Curb on street vendors:
Street vendors trading on the sidewalks around Majestic should trade without causing any problems for pedestrians and should maintain cleanliness. He instructed the authorities to take action to curb the rest, except for those who have been issued identity cards to trade on the street.
Fix potholes:
A pothole was found on the road coming from Majestic, and it was asked to be fixed immediately. At this time, an officer took up the work of white topping and said that it would be brought to the attention of the concerned authorities and repaired.
Clearance of footpath encroachment:
A section of the wall that was illegally constructed near the toilet near Upparpete Police Station was found encroaching on the footpath and was asked to be removed immediately. Accordingly, Gandhinagar Ward Executive Engineer Muniyappa called a JCB and cleared it immediately. Residents have been warned not to encroach in this way again.
Check and carry out repair work on ward roads:
The ward engineers should inspect all the roads coming under the respective ward limits, list the encroachment of footpaths, blockages, slab repairs, and damaged curbs, and carry out repair work. Later, the Zonal Joint Commissioners were instructed to visit the work sites randomly to ensure that the repairs were made.
2.5 km of footpath inspection:
Today morning from 6.30 to 8.30 am, a 2.5 km long footpath including Gubbi Thotadappa Road, Dhanwantari Road, Tank Bund Road and the bus stand around Majestic was inspected by walking and the officials were instructed to resolve the existing problems.
West Zonal Commissioner Suralkar Vikas Kishor, Special Commissioner of Projects Department Avinash Menon Rajendran, Joint Commissioner Sangappa, Executive Engineer and other concerned officials were present on this occasion.
