High priority for integrated waste management: BBMP administrator.

Mr. S.R. Umashankar, Administrator said that under the scope of BBMP, more priority is being given to comprehensive waste management and many projects are being undertaken for it.

He was addressing a two-day workshop on “Climate Action” in collaboration with BBMP C40 cities at Room No. 419 of Vikas soudha.

With a view to eliminate the problem of solid waste in the city, many initiatives have been adopted and work is being done to implement them all. He said that the state government has identified 50 to 100 acres of government-owned land in the four directions of the corporation for integrated waste management, and the process of handing over the said land to the corporation is underway. Mandatory segregation of raw and dry waste should be done in the city. He said that a waste-to-energy plant is being set up in the city and it will be put into operation soon.

To prevent environmental pollution in the city, we have to make many plans and work to implement them. Greater priority should be given to greening across the city. He said that importance should be given to drainage in houses and buildings and saplings should be cultivated.

Chief Commissioner Mr. Tushar Giri Nath said that there is a lot of fluctuation in the global temperature, which will have a lot of impact on pollution. We all have to work together to control pollution. Otherwise, no one will survive, he said.

We need to fix the disposal of building debris in the city. Dumping of building debris everywhere causes air pollution. He said that suitable measures should be taken for this.

It rains continuously for a year in the city, this year it is raining without fail. In this background, dengue cases are also increasing. He said that if all this is to be balanced, we need to bring about a lot of changes in climate action.
