Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao instructed the officials to identify and clear the encroached footpaths to ensure the safety and convenience of the citizens in the city.
In order to build well-maintained and convenient pedestrian walkways for citizens within the BBMP limits, he today inspected the pedestrian walkways from Sitarampalya Metro Station in Mahadevapura zone to BEML Layout Main Road and gave necessary instructions.
He also directed that the tree, which is leaning against the road on the ITPL main road, should be removed immediately as it is in the process of falling. He also directed that other dangerous/dry tree branches and branches should be removed
The Brigade Tech Garden Company has installed curbs across the sidewalk, which is causing inconvenience to pedestrians, and it was suggested that they be removed immediately and a level sidewalk be constructed.

He suggested that Akme Encore Apartments on ITPL Main Road should be investigated for discharging waste water into the drain and that action be taken to investigate the encroachment of pedestrians by these apartments.
Formation of a dedicated team for road and footpath development and maintenance:
Examine the possibility of merging various departments in BBMP such as Road Infrastructure Department, Traffic Engineering Cell, OFC and Electricity Departments together into a “Comprehensive Traffic Department”
He instructed the concerned officials to appoint their own transport planners and urban designers for this department and form a dedicated team for the development and maintenance of roads and footpaths.
Continuous inspection of development works: The Chief Commissioner instructed the Zonal Commissioners to inspect the ongoing works and footpaths in their zones on a daily basis.
Widening of footpaths: The officer was instructed to widen the footpaths to a minimum width of 1.8 meters in residential areas and 2.5 meters in commercial areas.
Development and maintenance of footpaths by private institutions: Private institutions, apartment complexes and other private institutions should voluntarily develop footpaths in front of their premises, He suggested that action be taken to issue a departmental order to assist and activate as much as possible. In addition, the front gates of all houses on the roadside must open inwards. Those who install gates that open outwards on the footpath should be fined. The Chief Commissioner ordered a comprehensive inspection of all the premises’ gates with a view to making this rule mandatory.
