Bengaluru, Sept 22:
“Tenders of Contractors Failing to Fill Potholes Will Be Cancelled”: Rajendra Cholan
Strict action will be taken against officials who fail to ensure pothole repair work is completed.
Speaking at a meeting held today on the 10th floor of the PU building on M.G. Road with all engineers and contractors of the Central City Corporation, Rajendra Cholan, Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner stated that the Chief Minister, in a recent meeting, had issued strict instructions to ensure motorable roads are available to the public without causing inconvenience to citizens. Following this, the Deputy Chief Minister has also consistently directed officials to ensure the closure of potholes across the city. In line with their directives, contractors have been instructed to immediately take up necessary road repair works.
Further, despite several warnings to the contractors who have taken up the white-topping project on Race Course Road, Cubbon Road, and other key roads under the B-SMILE division, the potholes have not been filled. A final notice has been issued, instructing that the pothole repair work must be completed within the next three days. If the work is not executed within the stipulated time, and if any negligence is found, the tenders of such contractors will be cancelled. The Corporation itself will then take up emergency repairs, and the expenses incurred will be recovered from the respective contractors. The Chief Engineers have been directed to ensure implementation of this order.
Strict action against officials failing in pothole management: Engineers have been instructed to compile ward-wise lists of potholes, patchwork requirements, and roads dug up by BWSSB and other departments. Based on these lists, immediate steps must be taken to complete all pothole repairs and patchwork. Officials failing to manage these works will face strict disciplinary action.
Penalty for BWSSB if road restoration is not done: If Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) contractors fail to restore roads after drainage or other utility work, penalties will be imposed. Further, if they do not clear debris post-construction, they will be fined and their construction materials will be seized.
Over the past two days, pothole repair work has been actively undertaken across several roads under the Bengaluru Central City Corporation limits. Today, work continued in areas such as: Kalasipalya Main Road in the Chikpet Division, Domlur and Old Airport Road service roads in the Shivajinagar Division, Service Road in Ward 112, Shivananda Circle, and the railway overbridge service road near Shivananda Circle, as well as B.V.K. Iyengar Road.
In the last two days alone, patchwork covering a total area of 3,182 square meters has been completed and 228 potholes have been filled.
The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner for Development, Daljit Kumar, Chief Engineers Vijaykumar Haridas and Suguna, Superintendent Engineer, Executive Engineers, and engineers from the B-SMILE Division.
