Additional Commissioner (Development) of Bengaluru East City Corporation, Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, chaired a review meeting today to assess the progress of the Health Department. The meeting covered key areas including national health programmes, birth and death registration, Indira Canteens, hostels, food safety and quality, and trade licensing.
National Health Programmes:
The Additional Commissioner reviewed the implementation of health programmes under the corporation’s limits and instructed officials to:
* Conduct larval surveys and conduct “Dry Days” regularly as a preventive measure against dengue.
* Collect monthly reports from all hospitals to ensure strict monitoring of tuberculosis control measures.
* Ensure effective distribution of free vaccines.
* Maintain continuous vigilance to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases.
Tobacco Control: He directed health supervisors to conduct raids on shops violating tobacco control regulations, seize such products, and carry out regular inspections to curb illegal sales.
Birth and Death Registration:Taking note of public grievances regarding delays or issues in obtaining birth and death certificates, he warned that action would be taken against any negligent officials. He also instructed officers to expedite the digitization of all historical records.
Indira Canteens:The Additional Commissioner stated that health supervisors will be directly responsible for maintaining hygiene, ensuring food quality, and overseeing daily operations at all 15 Indira Canteens functioning under the Corporation’s limits.
Food Safety and Quality:Officials were instructed to conduct regular inspections of hotels, restaurants, and eateries to ensure food quality and hygiene standards are strictly maintained.
Hostels:He directed officials to inspect and immediately shut down all paying guest accommodations (PGs) and hostels that are not operating as per prescribed guidelines or are found violating regulations.
Trade Licensing:Observing that a large number of commercial establishments are operating without valid licenses, the Additional Commissioner instructed officials to intensify awareness campaigns and organize special camps to accelerate the issuance of trade licenses.
The meeting was attended by Health Officers Dr. Savitha, Dr. Vishveshwarayya, and Dr. Rakesh, along with Assistant Directors (Statistics), Health Supervisors, and other officials.
